FAQ - Frequently asked questions
Can I put hot items on a Technistone material?
It is generally recommended to use thermo - resistant insulating paddings on the underside of the utensils to avoid scratch, colouration and possibly cracks When subjected to intense heat the physical properties deteriorate and it changes colour to some extent. Technistone is made of not less than 90% natural stone with glass and resin. Therefore, when exposed to intense heat it can rupture and change colour. It is reasonably heat - resistant for short - term temperatures up to 120 °C. Hot cast iron x stainless steel utensils, cigarette butts etc can leave irreversible stains on the material but will not melt it.
How many slabs of Technistone material is required for the average kitchen installation? Are the joints between slabs visible?
This is dependent on many factors among which is layout, size and other customer requirements. A kitchen worktop with a backsplash and an area of up to 4m2 can be manufactured from a single slab, where the uniform thickness is constant (the complete range of dimensions of a given product can be found in the Colour Range). The connections are thus practically invisible. For larger orders and the execution of above-standard solutions (kitchen island, bar, etc) from several pieces of slabs, a variation of thickness in the order of tenths of millimetre can occur. A precise and experienced facilitator can manage small differences and the provision of invisible smooth joints without major problems. An overview of verified stone worktops can be found in the “In Action” section. .
Is it possible to make a sink or storage area with drip grooves from Technistone material?
Yes, a sink which will appear uniform and functional in the colour of the worktop can be manufactured from a large panel. At the same time, drip grooves can be milled to provide a comprehensive storage area without the need for additional accessories. We recommend treating these drip grooves with impregnation which ensures subsequent carefree maintenance.
How does engineered (conglomerated) stone differ from artificial stone (acrylate)?
Engineered stone consists of four basic components namely quartz, silica, sand, colour pigments and a binder. The natural component makes up to more than 90%, the remaining 10% includes quality binder (resin), colour pigments and glass or mirror fractions, characteristic of certain product collections This ratio and production technology guarantees its high durability and strength. In artificial stone, the natural component is predominantly 70 % (bauxite). Thanks to this higher proportion of acrylate resin, artificial stone can be shaped but at the same time it is more susceptible to scratches and mechanical damage.
How does Technistone engineered stone differ from natural stone and ceramics?
Basically, the production processes, composition, physical properties, price and processing principles are different. Engineered stone consists mainly of natural raw materials, which together with other components are processed by a unique production technology into flat and highly durable slabs with patterns, surface finishes and thicknesses. Generally, engineered stone is characterised by higher strength and stain resistance, lower absorbency, uniform material structure, flexibility, and compatibility when compared with other materials. What Technistone finishes are on offer?
The colour range of Technistone engineered stone offers dozens of products with a unique design of modern and popular shades. More information about the product is available in the colour detail catalogue including surface treatment preferences connected to the various materials.
- Polished - the most popular finish with a high degree of gloss component and minimal maintenance
- Matt - modern " warm " surface with a low degree of gloss.
- Terra - surface treatment with fine 3D relief and seemingly plastic structure
Is Technistone material brittle?
Technistone is manufactured from highly durable material with guaranteed strength of about 40 - 90 Mpa depending on the product group (grain size of the raw materials utilized and resin content). Technistone can withstand the usual impact of ceramic of ordinary ceramic objects. There is little risk of chipping when in contact with larger and heavy metal objects especially products with mirror and glass components. However, extra care is required for the edges and corners of the slab.
Can I cut on a Technistone kitchen worktop?
To avoid creating dents and retain the shine of the slab it is recommended not to perform such operations directly on the worktop but rather on a solid chopping board placed on it. Continuous abrasion of the same area with a sharp object can create a scratch or dent. Extra care is required when using special knives or other cutting implements (steak knives, grilling needles, etc) If you insist on slicing on the slab, we recommend that you avoid using ceramic knives.
What are the available thicknesses of Technistone material? What are the processing possibilities?
Technistone material is produced in the form of large format slabs of thicknesses 12, 20 and 30 mm. The availability of the product in a given thickness can be verified in the colour detail. Thanks to the colour of the slab, the pattern is visible even after trimming the edges. The mechanical strength can be increased by gluing according to the request of the customer and optically create a solid slab of engineered stone with thickness greater than 30 mm.
What are the application possibilities of Technistone material?
Technistone materials are designed exclusively for indoor application where their use is practically unlimited. They are most often used for the production of kitchen worktops with backsplash, kitchen islands and bars. Furthermore, for bathroom countertops under the sink, bath or shower cladding, wall cladding, fireplace cladding, interior window sills, bedside tables, stairs, tiles etc.
Can Technistone be used for paving?
Technistone engineered stone is suitable paving. Available formats are 30 × 30 × 10 cm, 30 × 60 × 10 cm and 60 × 60 × 10 cm. Further information on the possibilities of use is available in the colour detail. For products where the possibility of paving is not specified, you can consult a Technistone representative for its use. According to laboratory tests in the Technical and Testing Institute Prague, s. p. Technistone has been classified in anti-slip class R9 and R10 (depending on the surface finish of the material).
